Life jacket found in Gulf amid tanker disappearance
In 14 foot seas off Galveston the Coast Guard recovered a life jacket with no ID from the area where the tanker W A Fog carrying 40 men vanished three days earlier. The search covering a gulf large as Massachusetts includes cutters planes and helicopters awaiting clearer weather. The Fog left Freeport Texas Tuesday with flammable chemicals bound for offshore tanks and was due in Galveston at 2 am Wednesday. Authorities have not released crew names while investigators consider a possible connection to a smoke sighting but have ruled out an oil rig fire. The incident echoes the Marine Sulphur Queen mystery of 193 where all 39 crew vanished off Florida.
