Vermont women back revised rape bill in Senate panel
Twenty three female Vermont House members released a statement urging revised rape legislation now before the Senate Judiciary Committee. The measure would narrow admissible evidence, remove the need for victim corroboration, expand the crime to include homosexual rape, allow joint trials, drop the marital exemption for separated couples, and seek stronger police response to victims. Rep Madeleine Kunin and Sen Esther Sorrell cited lifting fear and ensuring justice for rape victims. Rep Helen Wakefield did not sign pending more information.
