Therapeutic ice skating aids boost shy children’s confidence
In North Adams Massachusetts two teachers at Howland School started a weekly learn to skate program for about 10 boys aged 8 to 12 at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Skating Rink. A community effort built a simple skating aid from aluminum pipes with foot caps, donated materials, and funds from local sources. The device helps timid children gain balance and confidence, allowing them to graduate to independent skating while enjoying the sport they love.
