Cause of Death Undetermined for Inmate in Vermont
Windsor State Prison infirmary inmate Federico Cardinalli died suddenly after severe stomach pains. Pathologist Dr. Richard Woodruff found stomach congestion suggesting possible toxic drug use and noted heart disease but no coronary attack. Cardinalli, 32, had been paroled as a violator and was serving a 1963 narcotics and larceny sentence. Vermont Gov Hoff backs lowering voting age to 18 pending legislative action.

Oakes rules CVCAC drug advice not violation of law
Vermont Attorney General James L. Oakes ruled the Central Vermont Community Action Council’s price aid program for low cost mail order drugs does not constitute practicing pharmacy nor violate state law. The dispute arose after the State Board of Pharmacy charged the CVCAC’s Central Vermont Pharmaceutical Group with illegal drug dispensing via a Washington DC mail service. The board’s concerns centered on drug filling and business designation, but Oakes found no evidence of professional pharmacy activity and required removal of the word pharmaceutical from the group’s title. The program provides indigent residents price lists and mail order forms to obtain discounted drugs and vitamins through a nonprofit firm. In separate item, Hertz beat Avis 96 to 54 in a local rental agency basketball clash.
