Tax Proposals for Machinery and Property Listing

A proposed Vermont bill would list machinery at 50 percent of original cost for the machine’s life then 25 percent thereafter, require duplicate personal property inventories, and use state checks against income tax forms. It would create a State Board of Tax Appeals to hear county appeals, aiming for a more professional and faster system. Local critics worry about inequities and insist on local control.
