Unusual Leaves Exhibit At Bennington Gallery
A dozen preserved tree leaves bearing life scenes, likely from the 1860s, were acquired by the Bennington Gallery. An unknown artist used a wax and acid technique to burn designs into oak maple and alder leaves, creating detailed silhouettes such as a girl, a parrot, dancing couples, a buckskin rider, a lion, and Oriental scenes. Eight designs have sold. two fragile leaves remain unmounted, while two more are framed and on display.
