State faces ski area liability and court system reform
Surplus weakened. State ski areas will ask the Legislature to define who is responsible for accidents on the slopes after a $1.5 million court award to an injured skier. Republican lawmakers seek to appoint the attorney general, and fiscal leaders want control over federal grants when the Legislature is not in session. A Senate bill on Unification Church guardians without the protected person’s knowledge remains. A plan to unify the state court system stirs controversy by limiting assistant judges and allowing the court administrator to appoint county clerks. 1978 is an election year with Snelling likely to run and possible Democratic challengers in the Legislature.
