Sunderland Revote Set on $272000 Elementary School
Sunderland officials plan a revote on a proposed four classroom school to replace four old one room schools. The vote aims to approve a $272000 project with $72000 state aid, amid petitions alleging misrepresentation of costs and educational benefits. A second question would rescind the prior vote if passed.

Williams College Seeks More Black Enrollments
Williams College faculty approved a resolution urging a more aggressive recruiting policy to raise the number of academically qualified Black students and other minorities. The move assigns the Faculty Committee on Admissions to craft a coherent minority recruitment policy and assess its results. Williams, with 38 Black students in a 1,235 enrollment, notes about 125 inquiries yearly from Black prospects and only about 10 of the accepted enroll, often due to multiple offers. Admissions staff have expanded travel to Black-majority high schools and seek help from current Williams students and Afro-American Society members to reach about 10 percent Black entrants in future freshmen classes without lowering standards. The CEP drafted the resolution, chaired by Francis Oakley.
