District Court continued for Myron Sherman's West Rupert store with no exact loss estimate though Sherman cites up to $1000. In separate Friday actions, Peter A. Trudeau and Yomer Fisher faced arraignments with pleas changed. Trudeau pleaded not guilty to disorderly conduct and stolen property charges, bail set at 400 and 1000, while Fisher pleaded guilty to simple assault and received a 14 day sentence considered served.
The National Center for Disease Control reports influenza outbreaks in 15 states with widespread cases in New York City Baltimore and the San Francisco Bay area. Two cars collided on Northside Drive by the A and W restaurant late Friday night. Reports say at least three, possibly four persons injured. Bennington Rescue Squad units responded shortly after 10 30 p m with details not immediately available from Bennington Fulice.
William B. Shea Sr a retired banker and longtime town and village treasurer died unexpectedly Friday at Albany Medical Center Hospital. He was 78 or 75 years old depending on the obituary variant and lived at 921 Elm St. He had retired in 1952 as vice president of Vermont Bank and Trust Co. and was active in Mt. Anthony Country Club Knights of Columbus and St Francis de Sales Church. He leaves three sons two doctors all in or near Bennington and a daughter Mrs. H B Glenn Remington Jr. Memorials may go to St Francis de Sales Church Renovation Fund. Funeral arrangements announced by Mahar and Son Funeral Home with services at Sacred Heart Church.
House Speaker Walter Kennedy left Central Vermont Hospital in Berlin after treatment for a concussion and forehead laceration from Thursday's automobile accident. He was released Friday and returns home.
Bennington briefs note service closures for New Year period. The A W Restaurant and Peggy Maclay's Beauty Shop announce holiday closures around Dec 31 and Jan 2. Investigators in Windsor State Prison case pursue photo and fingerprint comparison with Dedham Massachusetts Brian O Keefe records amid confusion over two men with the same name. Authorities say the in custody man is the right Brian O Keefe, while sources note delays in proving the connection and limited access to the Dedham individual for confirmation.
