Boston stadium bill dies in Senate vote shock

The Massachusetts Senate voted 20-15 to kill a $41.6 million open stadium plan for Boston, despite House passage. Gov. Volpe lamented the loss and urged private funding after hours of debate and parliamentary reversals. The plan would have been built by the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority with hotel motel tax funding and covered a projected operating deficit of $1.3 million annually.
