Fatal Accident Claims Sherburne Woman on Route 100
A 47 year old Sherburne woman, passenger in a car driven by her son Winston, 20, of Rochester, was killed when the vehicle skidded off Route 100 and plunged 20 feet into the White River. Shaw died at the scene. Winston survived with non life threatening injuries.

Hospital Prepares To Appeal Lawsuit
Putnam Memorial Hospital plans to appeal a chancy court ruling requiring it to admit and treat destitute residents of Bennington County at no charge. Administrator Robert D. Stout says a statement of intent will be filed before the January deadline. The hospital will consult with special counsel Atty. Clifford Parker and present full recommendations to the executive committee in February. The ruling, issued by Chancellor William C. Hill, was based on capacity and financial ability, with possible future modification if needed. The suit was filed after towns charged for services to indigent residents, centered on the Henry W. Putnam Deed of Gift establishing the hospital.
