Vermonter in Philippine barrios builds farming credibility
Rick Wackernagel, 25, of Montpelier, served three years in the Philippines with the Peace Corps. He lived in Bangko, Benguet, working with farmers and Manila agencies to improve vegetable production. He adapted to local languages, guided seed centers, and bridged farmers with the Bureau of Plant Industry. He plans a life in agricultural development after his three year term ends, and notes ACTION oversees his service along with broad U.S. volunteer programs.
