Milly Francis Creek Heroine Given Congressional Honor
The Oklahoma Creek maid Milly Francis saved a Georgia militia officer during the 1817 Florida Indian War. Though her act earned later recognition from Congress, she died before the Medal of Honor existed and before a pension could be received. President Tyler later approved a pension of 96 dollars yearly. Milly died at 46 and was buried in an overlooked grave.
