Pope Paul to answer critics on birth control encyclical
Vatican City UPI Pope Paul VI said he will issue another pronouncement on birth control in due time while denouncing critics as nearly revolting. He summoned Roman Catholic bishops to a Vatican synod Oct 11 to discuss the church crisis and said prayers are needed for Apollo 8 and calls for peace in Nigeria and Vietnam.

Pueblo Crew Freed After North Korea Torture and Siege
The 82 surviving crew members of the USS Pueblo walked through a snowstorm to freedom from North Korea after 11 months of torture and near starvation. Captain Lloyd M. Bucher said guards beat them brutally and that he was held in solitary confinement most of the captivity. They were hospitalized at Ascom City near Seoul and faced medical exams before possible flight home for Christmas, with a return date depending on health results.
