Groups sue Vermont Corrections Dept over procedures
Two organizations, The Friends of Rehabilitation Inc and Vermont chapter of the ACLU, join inmate William Mayer in a Washington County suit against the Corrections Department. They allege failure to follow the Administrative Procedures Act requiring public notice, hearings, and state secretary filing. Mayer, sentenced 1970 for armed robbery, seeks declaratory judgment and injunctive relief. Civil Liberties Director Craig Murray accuses the department of secrecy and asserts the public has a right to know the rules governing corrections.
