Bird Lovers Making Annual Audubon Count
The 66th annual Christmas bird count coordinated by the National Audubon Society mobilizes over 11 000 volunteers from Alaska to the Florida Keys. In 50 states and beyond, teams tally birds across diverse terrains, facing extreme conditions, while contributing data on seasonal movements and endangered species like the peregrine falcon. Cocoa leads Florida with 204 species last year, covering 800 miles and 222 hours to log 150 000 birds.
