GAO finds most Nixon estate spending justified but flags issues
The GAO report concludes about 1.4 million dollars spent on Nixon homes in San Clemente and Key Biscayne largely covered protective needs, yet notes nonprotective landscaping, an unnecessary heating upgrade, costly hedge works, and a shared sewer project. It urges that future protective expenses be paid only on Secret Service requests and limits government involvement in private residence costs.
