Johnson State aide to be its president
Edward Elmendorf Administrative Vice President at Johnson State College has been asked to become acting president. He will succeed William G. Craig who becomes provost of the state college system, with Craig succeeding Robert Babcock Sr. who resigns in January after 15 years as head. Elmendorf, 34, will outline objectives at a news conference and supports the idea of a merge between the University of Vermont and the state colleges. He is writing a doctoral dissertation on statewide coordination of postsecondary education for the University of Massachusetts and hopes data will aid a legislatively created task force. Elmendorf previously served as Johnson president for two months before Craig’s appointment.
