Saudis back five percent oil price rise for 1977

Saudi Oil Minister Yamani said OPEC split with partners over the price hike and that Saudi Arabia and the UAE would maintain a five percent increase through 1977. He urged the Carter administration to show appreciation with progress on Middle East peace and aid to poor nations. The split marked the first major rift in OPEC since its 1960s formation and kept US gasoline price pressures uncertain.

OPEC split unlikely says Yamani as Saudi lifts ceilings

Saudi Arabia will lift all production ceilings, making a 5 percent overall rise likely while preventing a 10 percent surge by other members. Yamani warned against OPEC collapse and cautioned that a larger increase would harm the world economy.
