A committee formed by sociology students and Goddard College staff seeks to abolish the insulting name Niggerhead used for a mountain, pond, and brook in Marshfield. They note Vermont’s library board denied renaming in 1966 citing local tradition, while federal maps avoid derogatory terms and will drop the reference. The group is contacting college presidents, lawmakers, and public figures to form coalitions and press for change.
