State's new railroad faces another problem

Morrisville dispatch reports the St Johnsbury and Lamoille County Railroad, saved by the state, faces fuel cuts to 70 percent of last year's diesel. If quotas stay, manager Fred Westphal warns the line could have less than half this month and as little as one fourth by January, risking shutdown next week. The state paid Samuel Pinsley of Boston 1.5 million to secure the railroad, a move that Northern Vermont merchants welcomed to maintain shipping routes.
