Salmon urges Vermont GOP to seek energy crisis truce

Salmon calls for a truce on politicking during a long winter of discontent as Vermont battles an energy crisis. He cancels nearly all nonenergy engagements, including a Superbowl trip and a Japan visit, to focus on economic issues. He plans to confront William Simon in Washington as New England governors press for federal action and probe possible oil company profiteering. He backs uniform national laws to aid trucking amid high fuel prices and reduced speed limits, stressing regional impacts and the oil lobby’s influence.
