Old tires become soil conditioner via fungi at Rutgers
Scientists Walter Nickerson and Marcel Faber of Rutgers University report fermenting discarded tire scrap with yeasts and fungi to create a fine powder that reduces bulk, improves water retention in sand, aids water flow in clay, and helps grow kidney beans on sand mixed with the fermented tire powder.
