Supreme Court curbs power of unions over membership
The Supreme Court ruled unions cannot fine former members who resign to work during an authorized strike. The case involved Textile Workers Local 1029 workers at International Box Machine Co. in Nashua. The court said union by laws and contracts did not limit resignations and fines were an unfair labor practice. Justice Blackmun dissented.

Weatherman Grand Jury Indicts 15 in Expanded Bomb Plot

Memorials mark Pearl Harbor anniversary in Hawaii
Tourists paused with bowed heads at Pearl Harbor as wreaths floated above the Arizona Memorial. About 1,150 visitors, including 20 survivors, attended ceremonies with veterans presenting wreaths from multiple states. Ex-president helps thwart a car theft
SANTIAGO Chile Former President Eduardo Frei was awakened by machine gun fire near his door. He summoned an ambulance and aided a student and policemen wounded in an attempted auto theft. Police arrested three suspects and said there were no political motives.
