Witness recounts Calley firing on Vietnamese civilians
Turner 24 from Bellevue Neb testified he saw Lt Calley fire into the chest of a surrendering woman about 15 feet away. He also described civilians 90 to 100 in a ditch while Calley fired. Defense sought mistrial over alleged departure from earlier government statements. The judge allowed the woman shooting to be admitted for motive and design but struck it as evidence. The judge did not rule on mistrial and will press on with the bill of particulars issue.
