More job losses deepen recession warned by UPI report

UPI reports indicate companies cutting spending programs for early next year and reducing production to clear stockpiles, signaling more layoffs as the recession worsens. The Federal Power Commission raised natural gas prices eight cents, boosting residential bills by up to 16 percent by 1978, while Commerce notes capital spending will barely grow amid inflation. Miners to approve coal contract by 53 to 58 percent

UMW officials predicted a 53 to 58 per cent approval for a three year pact with Bituminous Coal Operators Association as a nationwide strike by 120000 miners entered its fourth month. Balloting closes tonight with mixed returns from 790 locals across 22 districts showing some districts backing and others rejecting the proposal.

Rockefeller says family has no grand plan in ventures
