Dukakis signs land-use tax act to protect farmland

Waterbury State Hospital to Cut 10 Percent of Staff
State Mental Health Commissioner Richard Surles announced an 18 month plan to reduce 10 percent of the Waterbury hospital workforce, about 59 positions, through attrition with no firings. Of the 286 patient care jobs, 29 are slated for reduction and 48 support roles will be cut. About 375 patients remain at the facility as administrative positions are shifted toward direct care.
