Grassroots gifts to McGovern set record of $14 million
Washington reports that McGovern contributions from 650,000 to 700,000 donors largely through small gifts raised an estimated 14 million to 15 million, possibly netting around 12 million for the campaign. The fundraising list, held on computer tapes, became a center of post election disputes over access and control.

Purlie Returns to Boston for Shubert Theatre Run
The musical comedy Purlie returns to Boston for a two week engagement at the Shubert Theatre starting Monday. The cast led by Robert Guillaume and Patti Jo remains largely the same as at the Colonial Theatre last December, with Art Wallace Sherman Hemsley Laura Cooper Douglas Norwich Helen Martin and Shirley Monroe. The book is by Davis Hose and Peter Udell with lyrics by Udell and music by Geld. Louis Johnson choreographs and Ann Roth designs costumes. Since Boston Purlie has played in Philadelphia New Haven Toronto Pittsburgh Cleveland Baltimore Washington Detroit Chicago St Louis Cincinnati and Indianapolis. The show blends folklore humor to satirize bigotry through the Georgia preacher Parlie Vic… and his ploy to steal $400 by passing off Lulle belle as the rightful recipient, triumphing over oppression through farce.
