Tax Increase Dead for 1967 in Washington
Washington (UPI) The Johnson administration’s proposed income tax hike is dead for 1967 and faces doubt for next year’s congressional approval. Treasury Secretary Fowler and Budget Director Schultze failed to persuade Rep. Mills that higher taxes are needed to fight inflation and deficits. Mills suggested opposition in 1968 and questioned if higher taxes are the right medicine for price rises.
