More Soviets drive private cars as fatalities rise
MOSCOW UPI reports a surge in private car use in the Soviet Union with 2,532 Moscow accidents in six months causing 302 deaths and 2,408 injuries. Zhiguli sedan drivers are blamed for about 40 percent of private auto crashes, prompting calls for defensive driving and caution, especially for drivers over 45. Fiat built Zhiguli production climbs to 680,000 yearly, and private car ownership rises from eight per 1,000 in 1970 to 16 in 1975, aiming for 30 by 1980.

Roy Rogers returns to film after twenty years
Roy Rogers and his son Dusty promote Mackintosh and T.J. in New York, his first feature in 20 years. The King of Cowboys, 65, recalls his career from Under Western Stars in 1938, hints at a national release later this year, and jokes about playing himself aged Roy Rogers. Elvis Cadillac parts spark a local souvenir plan in Columbus, Georgia, where dealers sell heart shaped pendants for 9.75.
