Sen. William Proxmire urged Lance to step aside eventually over disclosed finances and bank experience. Lance defended his performance at the OMB while noting no impairment to duties, and White House officials said disclosures were stricter than required. Proxmire, the lone dissenting vote on Lance's confirmation, said lack of government banking experience and the Georgia bank's losses argued for resignation sometime.
