Pentagon reports North Vietnamese buildup at Khe Sanh base
UPI reports Pentagon officials describe a major North Vietnamese expansion at Khe Sanh in South Vietnam. They cite a 3400 foot unlighted air field a 530 foot runway with lights a 100-building operations center four SAM sites and a 170 mile road into Kontum Province plus 4000 to 5000 trucks. Officials say this could give Hanoi strong supply lines and halt avoidance of a new offensive but no landing has occurred yet.
