Vermont Seeks Dismissal of Lawmakers' Intervention Plea

Vermont asked a three judge federal panel to dismiss a petition to extend lawmakers’ terms beyond 1965. Attorney Donald Milne filed the motion on behalf of Barre legislators. the court has ordered reapportionment and elections for a population based House and Senate. Gov Hoff did not sign the House resolution. experts call Milne’s move futile and the Committee to Defend the Vermont Constitution will not participate.

Bennington bypass plan backed by regional planners

After eight years of discussion the Bennington Regional Planning Commission approved a beltline bypass around Bennington Village forming a three quarter circle around the eastern edge of the village and northwest edge of Old Bennington. The route, a modified version of John Burdis proposal, avoids Whipstock Hill and may affect homes and businesses along U.S. 7 and nearby routes.

Gemini-5 Cleared for Eight Day Mission Amid Rigging Failures

Hutchinson seeks court action to halt special fall elections

Rep W Clark Hutchinson of Rochester filed a petition for an injunction in Chittenden County court to stop the fall elections for the reapportioned Vermont legislature. He argues Vermonters lack constitutional protections without a hearing and may appeal to the state Supreme Court if denied.

Ford Accuses LBJ of Inviting Riot in DC

735 Billboard Removal Notices Issued by State

In Vermont 4600 highway billboards are being reduced after 1965 laws. Joseph Moore reports 735 removal notices issued since March 1 by the secretary of state’s outdoor advertising division. New laws limit signs to one per mile per business, require permits, and bar obsolete or poorly erected signs.

Hundreds of couples rushed to Las Vegas to wed before midnight to beat a draft deadline. No blood tests or waiting periods. licenses issued rapidly as crowds packed wedding chapels and Clark County offices. Many came from New Jersey and Pennsylvania. up to 300 waited in line at times.

Daley Names Mrs Franco To Council

State Sen. Helen Franco the sole Washington County Democrat in the Vermont Senate was appointed to the Legislative Council by Lt. Gov. John Daley. She replaces Sen. Harold Raynolds who resigned to focus on publishing newspapers in Windsor and Windham counties and will run again in the fall special elections.
