Escape map found at San Quentin tied to prison break
Officials report discovery of an elaborate escape map, plastic explosives, a zip gun and a .22 barrel in George Jackson’s cell at San Quentin High Security Adjustment Center. The escape plan pointed toward Marin City and followed a deadly breakout that left six dead and several guards and inmates injured. Authorities blame outside agitation and pursue charges, with Marin County DA Bruce Bales to decide prosecutions.

Labor unions unite against Nixon wage freeze in Washington
AFL-CIO President George Meany and United Auto Workers chief Leonard Woodcock held talks to plan a counter strategy to the 90 day wage freeze. Woodcock signaled possible talks with Teamsters leader Frank Fitzsimmons and warned the union could challenge wage protections after the freeze ends. The UAW and Teamsters remain outside AFL-CIO, heirs to past expulsions and rival federations, while moves resume to reintegrate major unions into a single national labor confederation.
