Suspect in Nixon threat found at New Mexico commune
The wife of Edwin M. Gaudet, accused of threatening President Nixon, says he could not have made the threat as he was living with her at the Morning Star Commune in northern New Mexico. Secret Service halted a 24 hour search after credible sightings and tracks in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains were reported. Gaudet, nicknamed Punchy, had previously been tracked to the area, fled after exchanging shots with sheriff's deputies, and remains at large with officers locating his camp and a rifle ammunition case nearby.

Tragedy at Cape Cod Beach Drowns Woman. Riptide Traps 18
A 32 year old woman from Watertown Connecticut died when a riptide swept seven others for rescue at Nauset Beach near Orleans Massachusetts. Her husband 57 was in serious condition at Cape Cod Hospital. Twelve others were hospitalized from Connecticut New York and nearby areas with several released after treatment and others held overnight in good condition.
