Conservation Society to join action over paper mill plan
The Conservation Society of Southern Vermont will become a party to any legal proceedings over a $200 million Parsons and Whittemore Co. paper mill proposed along the Connecticut River. The group voted to oppose the mill unless environmental pollution is reduced to the lowest technologically possible level and to support enforcement to ensure clean levels while promoting timber-based jobs and income for woodlot owners. The decision followed a Dartmouth College student study video and emphasizes safeguarding Upper Connecticut River valley quality of life.
