Assassination plot uncovered in New Orleans
Secret Service and FBI disclosed a real threat to President Nixon during a New Orleans visit. A lookout was issued for Edmund Gaudet, a former officer, amid reports of stolen police gear and cars. The White House canceled Nixon’s midday motorcade and proceeded with the speech at the Veterans of Foreign Wars convention after security concerns. Local police set barricades on Canal Street as investigators coordinated with federal agencies.
