Algol the variable star and a local kidnapping case
The article notes Algol in Perseus as a bright second magnitude star that alternates to fourth magnitude. It then describes the alleged abduction of a 8th grade girl by Caouette, a 6 foot 3 inch former Marine with prior mental health treatment, from Plymouth New Hampshire. The girl was taken into woods after being forced from her apartment. Police described Caouette as a local bully with a prior record including breaking and entering and a 1965 assault with a deadly weapon conviction after ramming a police cruiser. Police and witnesses recounted sightings, threats to shoot, and a lengthy manhunt that lasted into the night with spotlights and dogs before being suspended for safety. The girl’s relatives and aunt were present, and Caouette’s motive appeared linked to a difficult breakup with the girl. He was to be charged with kidnapping and assault with a dangerous weapon.
