Tighter lakeshore laws asked

Vermont Environmental Conservation Secretary Martin Johnson urged stronger lakeshore zoning rules at a water quality conference. He argued current law lets towns opt in and lacks deadlines, claiming mandated zoning would protect lake waters. Aquatic Biologist James Morse warned a decade or more to solve St Albans Bay pollution, pointing to over-fertilization from a nearby sewage plant fueling weed growth.

Scientists seek photos of Titanic expedition plans

Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute scientists consider a shipborne expedition to locate and photograph the sunken Titanic. The effort faces a roughly 2 million dollar bill, with several groups already approaching the institute. The wreck lies about 400 miles west of Newfoundland, where 1,513 died during the 1912 maiden voyage. Robert Ballard says finding the hull may be easy, but photography remains the true challenge for a remote controlled mission.
