The two day Vermont State Firefighters Association convention concluded with a two hour parade in Bennington marking the 192nd anniversary of the Battle of Bennington. Senators Aiken and Prouty led the parade with their wives as spectators lined the streets despite threatening skies.

Bennington Selectmen hire Essex official as town manager
Edward R. Lamb of Essex Junction won the five month search for Bennington town manager. Lamb, 46, is town and village official in Essex, and vice president of Donald L. Hamlin Engineers. He will begin Sept. 1 at a $12,500 salary. Lamb was chosen from at least 40 applicants. he impressed with engineering and municipal governance experience and knowledge of Vermont conditions. He requested a pickup truck instead of mileage payments to aid road and sewer crews.

Davis Reported Seeking Alexander's Resignation
Gov. Deane Davis was said to be seeking the resignation of Public Safety Commissioner Erwin Alexander. A spokesman indicated an official statement would come soon while Reed noted the possibility the leak was deliberate to hinder the deal. Alexander denied plans to resign as the term continues to February 1971 and removal requires a hearing on specific charges.

Green Beret officers moved from solitary confinement
Eight Green Beret officers, held since the June 20 murder of a South Vietnamese civilian at Nha Trang, were transferred from solitary confinement to barracks outside the stockade at Long Binh. A civilian lawyer, George Gregory, called conditions inhumane, while CIA witness issues and delays in questioning continue to affect the case.
