In other races, Treasurer contender George Kingston Jr criticized incumbent for out of step with times and urged investment policy to weigh human values.
The 67 tons of GB nerve gas in 418 coffins will be scuttled 16,000 feet deep off Cape Kennedy after a series of court orders. The 282 mile voyage began from Cape Fear River with Navy Captain Arthur G. Hamilton supervising. An EDF appeal failed to halt the operation though a brief restraining order was extended by the appeals court.
Vice President Spiro Agnew condemned the Hatfield McGovern end-the-war amendment as a blueprint for U.S. defeat in Southeast Asia.
