Two English Irish plays staged in Bennington area this week
William Gilbert reviews The Hostage at Saratoga and What The Butler Saw at Williamstown. He praises The Hostage as a near perfect summer production, a passionate critique of reprisals and national agony, while noting What The Butler Saw offers manic humor underpinned by a critique of Freudian psychiatry. The piece also corrects a local oil bid error from Tuesday’s Banner.
