CAPE KENNEDY UPS reports a seabased Poseidon missile test marking the first two stage MIRV deployment. The bullet shaped Poseidon launched from a land pad at 6 30 a m EDT with a dummy warhead reaching an Atlantic target 1200 miles away. A Minuteman 3 follow up was planned for later.
Vermont Governor Philip H. Hoff called the Vietnam War an immoral irrational venture at a Madison Square Garden rally for Senator Eugene McCarthy. Hoff, who severed ties with the Johnson administration hours earlier, urged opposition to the war and urged McCarthy as the path to change.
Senator McCarthy released a list of suggested cabinet candidates reflecting his policy aims. Names include Fulbright Cooper and Morton for secretary of state, Rockefeller or Hughes for housing head, and Coretta King for UN ambassador. McCarthy stressed none were asked to serve and emphasized the list symbolized his views.

Norman H. Greenberg of Bennington topped bidders yesterday at a public auction ordered by the Small Business Administration. He offered 82,000 dollars for the former Volkswagen Garage on North Bennington Road, with the purchaser assuming about 3,000 dollars in 1968 taxes. The site, valued at 88,500 dollars, drew one other bid from a Lindholm Motors, Inc. representative of Rutland. Greenberg said he hasn’t decided final use for the property, noting he has two or three ideas but no firm plan.
