River study aims to map Vermont streams for better use

Arlington residents packed the street fair while the Bennington County Regional Commission prepares a river study. With a $13,400 federal grant, four staff and a 16 member advisory committee will review Vermont rivers, classifying streams and drafting a practical planning manual to guide local communities. The five section booklet will cover history, glossary, visual river analysis, planning principles and implementation with focus on making rivers swimmable by 1983. The project underscores local action over centralized regulation and attracts statewide planning interest.
