Hoosick Falls councilman Guy H. Phillips the treasurer of the First Hoosac Connecticut Bennington Battle Day Committee asked the Hoosick Town Board for a $100 increase in expenses for this year. The board had already earmarked $200.
Robert E. Rudd Jr. is chosen president of the North Pownal Cemetery Association to replace Harold J. Weyers who resigned due to ill health. The group held a meeting at Miss Gertrude Arbour’s home in North Pownal. The town supervisor questioned increasing appropriations, while supporters urged funding for a historical good cause. The celebration is set for Friday at 6:30 PM at Walloomsac State Park with honorary chairs Murphy and Albowicz. Also noted were weak compliance with a local license ordinance for junkyards, and a warning to owners to obtain licenses.
A Ford Foundation program brought Harlem youths and others to Vermont Academy in Saxtons River where about 85 students aged 16 to 18 framed, painted, and sketched. The group aims to produce 150 canvases weekly as they prepare for upcoming shows.
The Northern Berkshire Council of the Arts announces a fall class series from September 20 to early December led by NBCA chairman Andre Speyer. The group will shift to two seasonal series with seminars, lectures and art shows replacing the spring third term. A general membership meeting is set for September 18 to elect officers. Registrations for the fall series will occur mid September at multiple Northern Berkshire locations and include classes in photography dance painting guitar sculpture dress design and crewel work.
West on Vermont Craftsmen Inc will present Helen Beckerhoff of Stowe in a demonstration of silver jewelry making at the Grist Mill of the Vermont Guild of Oldtime Crafts and Industries. The event runs 10 am to noon and 2 to 4 pm with free admission. Beckerhoff chairs Vermont Arts and Crafts Advisory Council and holds multiple craft society memberships.
Hoosick Falls resident Fred Jones of Eagle Bridge is a patient at Albany VA Hospital after an ambulance transfer by the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad. William E Burns and family returned from a Chicago visit with Mrs. Burns' siblings Walter and Mrs. Lott. John McCarton of Shaftsbury VT resumed duties as Yankee Trails bus driver after a vacation, with Burton Barber substituting last week. Ralph Metcalf of Hoosick Falls and Thomas L Bearup of Albany were fined in Village Court for speeding.
