The Forest Service and three Dover-Wilmington ski areas submit broad development concepts to expand facilities both on current permits and private land. The aim is to assess total environmental and community service impacts, not just individual projects, amid ongoing public controversy over ecological effects and service needs.
Land use notes show 1 229 acres or 43 percent of National Forest land in the study area used for winter sports with the rest undeveloped. Mount Snow seeks 150 more acres for lifts, Carinthia 78 acres, Haystack plans a four season resort with hotels and 2 600 car parking, all increasing uphill capacity. Robert C Hart aged 45 of 38 York Drive Burlington died Friday afternoon at Putnam Memorial Hospital after being rushed by the Bennington Rescue Squad following a sudden incident during a Legion tournament game at Mt Anthony Union High School Field. His son Colin played third base for the Burlington Legion team.
The Banner corrects an error attributing ownership of the Pownal state liquor agency to Joseph Tornabene. Vera Tornabene is the sole owner and operator. Also noted are obituaries for Mrs. Raymond Coombs of San Mateo, California, a Bennington native and Bennington High School graduate, who died in San Francisco, with funeral services July 8 in California. A parking lot collision at Mt Anthony Union High School caused moderate damage to two cars, a 1972 Ford and a 1965 Cadillac, involving Jean Patnaude and Charles Sleeman.
Former White House aide John Ehrlichman and his family are moving back to their old waterfront residence in Hunts Point Seattle after five years away. He leases the large yellow house and says they expect to stay for a while.

New York stocks tumbled on Friday as the 13th rate hike of the year dampened buying interest. The Dow fell below 90 for the first time in a month to 692.96, the S and P 500 slid to 14.77, and the NYSE average share price declined three cents amid 1,733 issues traded and 10.87 million shares.
The proposal favors shifting the burden to wealth holders while keeping personal taxes lower. It would raise corporate income tax to 25 percent on profits over 15000, exempt the first 20100 of owner occupied homes, and repeal exemptions on stocks bonds bank deposits franchises and patents.
