Meeting Explores Sheltered Workshop Program for Mentally Retarded Adults
In Manchester a Wednesday session gathered 35 physicians clergy social workers and lay people to discuss a sheltered workshop program for mentally retarded adults in Vermont. Arthur Bennett of Quincy Mass described sheltered workshops as a bridge to work, and attendees noted Brandon Training School is the only Vermont site with extended employment. The program would require subsidies and community support, with two workshop models outlined transitional and extended employment, plus a satellite option for rural areas.
