Two Youths Escape Serious Injury In Old Bennington Crash
Early Saturday a car left a 90 degree curve on Old Bennington Street, struck the Old First Church Marker and toppled a 55 ton monument. Driver John Moxley 18 of North Bennington and passenger Nelson Van escaped serious harm. Moxley treated for minor bruises at Putnam Memorial Hospital. The monument, weighing 15 tons for the upper section and 40 tons for the base, suffered major damage. Vermont Marble Co. representatives and the Historical Sites Commission will assess repair costs.
