Liliom at Wilmington Playhouse lacks music and drama
Ferenc Molnar's Liliom opens at the Wilmington Playhouse in a Mirror Players production directed by Kathryn Cobb and June Hamblin Mitchell. The cast includes Marie Perdita Buchan, Julie Beatrice O'Donnell, Ed Connolly, John Glover, Diane Park, and Richard Hughes. Set design by Herbert Schmoll, costumes by Robbie Robbins, lighting by Schmoll. The run continues through Saturday and next week Tuesday through Saturday. The review notes a musical without songs and an uneven pace, with strong turns by Glover and Buchan but some cast inconsistency. The production evokes the musical's themes of crime and redemption and ends with a somber meditation on love and morality.
