Mansion to Museum in North Bennington by Elizabeth Dwyer
The century old McCullough mansion near Bennington is poised to become a museum and cultural center this year. Leased to a new non profit, the McCullough Park Foundation formed in May will open to the public around Memorial Day next year, hosting lectures, concerts and meetings. Trustees include Hall Cushman, Jane Hanks, Janet Henningsen, and Arthur Murphy with Carleton Howe among executive committee members.

Vermont officials report a fiscal 1968 general fund deficit of 1.58 million, the first in the Hoff administration in four years. Nine Miners Killed In Kentucky Blast
Nine miners died after an explosion trapped them in a new soft coal mine near Greenville Kentucky. Rescue teams found eight bodies in the shaft area and a ninth closer to the mouth. The victims, all men aged 25 to 56 from nearby towns, were identified as Rice Fridinger English Miller Harris Epley Creekmore Saling Bryant. The Peabody River Queen mine suffered a slate fall and an explosion investigators say was caused by explosives.

In Hoosick Falls New York a burglar broke a rear window at Hoosac Pharmacy on Classic Street and escaped after the front door. More than 150 dollars was taken from a safe and cash register. Chief Demich gave chase and obtained a description of the suspect and his car with a Massachusetts plate. No drugs were taken and no blood was found at the scene.

Renewed Violence Flares In Negro Section Of Miami

Heritage House Safe Stolen In North Bennington Road
A safe containing about 3500 dollars was taken overnight from Heritage House Restaurant on North Bennington Road near Monument Plaza Shopping Center. Vermont State Police are investigating. the break was discovered by a cleaning crew after 5 am. The safe was reportedly the only item taken. no break-in details released. The restaurant is leased to Drive-In Concessions, Inc. of Boston, with Beverly Jones as manager.
